01.06.10 Overview

May 31st, 2010

Well I dont know whether to be Happy or Sad . I have just wrote my last Match Report for the season . When looking through them it brings a smile to my face to see how the girls have gone from strength to strength . At first the girls were all in it for the goals and it was more like a competition who could get the most or how many of the girls if not all could score a goal each game .

As the season progressed so did the football and it was a joy to watch on a saturday morning . Ok there was a few moments where it was a bit tense but you cant expect excellence every game and if you look at the top teams in the Premiership they have bad weeks too . The girls really have bonded well and this really has shown when the pressure has been on .

The girls have really had a lot to live upto after last years u10’s went and won the treble and as I was’nt here last season I cant really compare the 2 teams . This year though I can truely say that our girls have deserved the success they have had . They won The Cup , The Lge Shield and yes they got the treble and won the League and throughout the whole season have only concided 4 goals .

This hard work though is also a big thanks to the coaches who have made the girls the team they are today ,  but also the parents who have managed to get the girls to the games each week and give them the encouragment that they deserve .

I would like to wish all the girls the same success for next season , I know that the majority of the girls will be going upto the U12’s and this is a new challenge for you , but you are all strong minded and confident girls and I believe that  you will do really well . As my dad used to say JUST PLAY THE GAME !!!!!

Parents you may have lost me on Match Days but you cant get rid of me that easy and i will still be around on a Monday for our weekly Mothers Meetings !!!!!

Well it was  Bank Holiday and the weather was as you would expect , completely pouring it down . This like any other game though really did’nt stop the girls and in true SCA style the girls ended the season on a high .

The game started off a little slow , both sides had a few chances but both teams were denied . The opposition really made the girls work but SCA were no match when they had possession of the ball . The first goal eventually came after some lovely passing between Nikki and Kelly . This  allowed Nikki to chip the ball just passed the keeper . With Kelly involved with some lovely footwork on the first goal , it really showed when she delivered an excellent 2nd goal . The opposition did’nt drop their heads and continued to put pressure on .

Goal 3 was the one that we had all been waiting for , and the only reason being is that it was the first goal scored from a header . The lovely finish was delivered by Shannon . Goal 4 was delivered by Nikki shortly after . Stratford really continued to push forward and after cleverly slipping passed the defence they had a lovely chance to score but they were denied when Kirsty made an excellent save . Kelly had another chance now to bring the first half to  5-0 but was denied and the first half  finished  SCA 4-0 .

Second half kicked off and the rain was really coming down now , it also started as the first half finished with a lovely save from Kirsty . Nikki was on good form today and after a lovely run down the wing, managed to get passed the defence , turned and scored . Katie had a chance shortly after but was denied when the opposition managed to clear it . Brodie and Amber worked well in defence to make sure that no further chances got passed them . Goal 6 was a lovely simple pass and a lovely finish by Kelly . Nikki scored the final 2 goals with Sara having a shot denied and Nikki there to finish from a rebound . Lauren had a lovely chance along with Kelly but both were denied . The final score finished SCA 8-0 .

With all the rain and poor visability at times throughout the game Shannon managed to continue to get in and out of players as and when she needed , and after that superb header into the back of the net it is only fair to give her a well deserved Person of the Match .

Sutton

May 26th, 2010

Last game of the season and it’s always nice to end the season with a victory which would secure 2nd place in the league.

The game was played on possibly the hottest day of the year in baking sunshine. Great for spectators, tough on players for both sides alike. It was good to see Claire McIntyre make her return from injury

This was more like the Albion side we’d experienced all season – slow starting. To be fair to Sutton, they played in a manner that belied their lowly league status and it was obvious that they weren’t going to roll over and give the game to Albion. Unfortunately, an early skirmish led to an apparent  re-occurence of Claire’s injury. We wish her well in her recovery.

Eventually, the Albion breakthrough game when Ellie Gibbs crept in at the far post and put the ball away to take a 1 – 0 lead.  Harley Simpson extended the lead just prior to half time ,after excellent work down the right hand flank from Paige Turner, when she poked home from close range to take the game into the break with Albion enjoying a 2 – 0 lead.

This was maybe unfair on Sutton who had had their chances in the first half but ultimately failed to make their mark on the scoresheet.

They didn’t take long in the second half to redress this and capitalised on some uncertainty in the Albion defence to reduce arrears to 2 – 1 . This served to put some  pressure on the Albion team which showed in some nervous play for the next 10 – 15 minutes.

The nervy play continued until the ball broke midway through the second half for Reagan Roper to score one of her trademark goals from 18 yards beating the keeper all ends up.

This served to settle the nerves and whether it was Albion’s superior fitness or Sutton wilting in the heat, further goals from the persistent Jade Sinclair and a final goal of the season from Kate Franks rounded off the scoring to end the game with a 5 -1 victory for Albion and second place in the league.

Wednesfield (A)

May 26th, 2010

After last week’s disappointment at Leafield this game gave the girls the opportunity to bounce back and they took it with both hands and produced an excellent all round performance.

They were at Wednesfield from the off and it was no surprise when they took the lead with a Katie Franks effort. This was followed up by Reagan Roper scoring the rebound off her own saved penalty. She doubled her tally prior to half time with another excellent strike to take a 3 – 0 lead into the break.

The second half followed in much the same vein with Jess Print getting her rewards for another hard working performance in getting the 4th, substitute Katie Grainger adding the fifth and Ellie Gibbs rounded off the night with an excellent turn and shot with her unfancied left foot to post a 6 - 0 final scoreline.

Good night, much more like the performance that the girls are more than capable of.

Hopes were high prior to kick off but it turned out to be the biggest disappointment of the season.

All credit to Leafield

Result says it all – bad day at the office – enough said

With the sun shinning and the girls all in good spirit from the previous weeks wins , this game was looking to be a good one . The SCA girls started off well and Kelly was straight in from the off with a few near misses . With the pressure on and some lovel passing the girls started to take control . After 10mins Nikki and Shannon both had lovely chances at goal both of which were denied . The first goal eventually came after a lovely delivery from Shannon which hit the post and Nikki was there to chip it passed the keeper .   Kelly was determined to score after the first few chances were denied and after a lovely cross into the box from Nikki she was able to chip the ball into the left hand corner . The opposition started to really pressure and Shannons attempt at goal was well cleared by the defenders .

With 15 mins of the first half played a few substitutions were made ( Brodie , Amber and Katie ) . The girls were in full flow and the passing and communication was second to none and the girls were making it hard for the opposition to gain control of the ball .  Rosie was well on form in defence and after making a lovely tackle she had a lovely run down the wing passing all players that got in her way . She was denied a goal after such a good run when it just chipped over the post . With the final minutes remaining the girls were determined to finish with another goal and this came after a lovely display of foot work from Sara to Brodie and Brodie through to Shannon allowing her to slot it passed the keeper . With the first half whistle blown the score was 0-3 SCA .

With the temperature starting to heat up on and off the pitch the girls remained cool . The second half started just as good as the first and there was a near miss from Katie after a lovely pass back from Amber within the first minute . The goals started to come a bit faster after this and again after some lovely skill from Amber to Lauren , Lauren was able to find the net . Nikki was on a role and followed up with a lovely goal after some lovely display of football from Katie and Lauren . Nikki had yet another chance but was denied when her header went wide . Goal 6 came shortly after from Shannon just outside the box, again with some excellent team work from Katie and Nikki . Nikki was on a role again and found the back off the net after a lovely throw in from Lauren . With only 5 mins to go and the score SCA7-0 the girls did’nt stop and they continued to put the pressure on . Goal 8 came from a lovely corner kick from Lauren which swung straight into the goal . Rosie continued to put pressure on and was again denied 2 lovely chances at goal when both shots went wide . Final whistle blew and score finished SCA 8-0

With such determination and three good chances at goal of which all were denied it is only fair to award Person of the Match to Rosie . She never gave up and continued to battle on .

16.05.10 League Shield Cup – Leafield v SCA

May 18th, 2010

After such a nail bitting experience last week , both teams were well up for the challenge that today’s game offered . Both teams got off to a great start with missed chances happening within the opening seconds.Leafield had the first chance at goalbut was no match for Kirsty who made an Excellent save .Sara had a lovely chance down the other end of the pitch but was denied when it just went over the post .

Both teams were displaying some excellent foot work and the passing was spot on . After a few more denied chances the first goal game after 10 mins when some lovely skill work from Lauren broke down the  Leafield defence and managed to square the ball through to Sara who found Kelly in perfect position just outside the box , allowing her to drive the ball straight passed the keeper . Leafield did’nt drop their heads and continued to battle and again had a number of chances . With 20 mins of the game played and both teams really applying as much pressure as they could Leafield eventually broke the SCA defence and Leafields No 9 found herself one on one with Kirsty and slotted the ball straight passed her and levelling the score 1-1 .

With the score neck and neck the second half was going to be an exciting 25mins . The opposition were straight in and yet again had a lovely shot at goal but was denied when it went wide . Then SCA had a lovely chance after Shannon and Nikki made some lovely passing to make way for Brodie to have a shot which again just went wide .This was the way the game went for the next 5 mins where both teams had some lovely chances but all denied by either going wide or just over . With such determination from both teams you could feel the tention in the air and you could see that a goal was’nt going to be to far away . After a good 15mins of watching the ball go from one end to the other SCA’s pressure paid off when they were given a throw in which Kelly took , she delivered a short throw to Nikki and Nikki then passed back to Kelly and Kelly then passed it through to Lauren and she delivered a lovely goal .

The final 10mins were very tense and SCA continued to battle on and tried to make sure that no silly mishaps happened that would cost them the game . With the time ticking down quickly now Leafield were determined to try and even the score and No9 delivered a lovely shot which just went wide .Rosie also had a free kick just outside the box but it just chipped over the post . The opposition tried to get another chance but were denied when the final whistle blew and the score finished SCA 2-1 Leafield .

This was a lovely game to watch and both teams played some excellent football and all girls deserve a round of applause .

With great effert from all the girls , their was one girl that stood out and really took control even though she was still feeling poorly from the day before and that was Captain Sara . A well deserved Person of the Match for battling through and producing a good win .

The sun was shining and the girls were all in good spirit .The first 5mins saw a number of near misses and plenty of pressure in the oppositions half . The first goal came after Laurens shot rebound and Kelly was there to follow it up with a lovely chip straight passed the keeper .The oppossition took this on the chin and continued to pressure the girls but this did’nt stop our girls and with some excellent passing and controlling of the ball Lauren was denied another goal when it went straight to the keepers hands and minutes later Nikki was also denied after some excellent foot work from Rosie . With Lauren already having 2 goals denied she was determined to score and after 10mins of play her chance finally come when she slotted the ball straight passed the keeper . With the score now 2-0 and Lauren making way for Brodie to come on the opposition really put pressure on and had a real good chance at goal . With some lovely passing the opposition managed to squeeze passed our defence and find themselves with a chance , but Kirsty was well on form and made a tremendous save . With only minutes to go Sara found herself in full control of the ball and managed to finished the first half 3-0 .

With the girls in a good position they did’nt take the foot of the gas , and the goals started to come thick and fast . Lauren was the first to deliver another fantastic finish after Ambers goal rebounded off the post . With Nikki just missing a goal after lovely passing from Lauren and Brodie , she was straight back in there and again with an excellent pass from Kelly this time she managed to swing it straight into the top corner .

With more than 10mins of the second half played the girls were well in control and were focused at all times . Goal 6 was a lovely chip from Shannon from just passed the half way line . Coundon never gave up hope though and continued to put the pressure on and again had a few near misses that just went wide . Kelly delivered the next after a throw in by Brodie . Shannon and Kelly both delivered minutes later and the score was 9-0 . With literally seconds left to go and both teams really giving their all Kelly delivered a lovely ball into the box allowing Nikki to finish the game 10-0 .

All the girls displayed some lovely football but with some lovely foot work and some excellent deliveries at goal Person of the Match goes to Nikki .
